Mt. Parawagan

Mountain: Mt. Parawagan (480+ masl)
Location: Brgy. Wawa, Rodriguez, Rizal
July 15, 2018

Mt. Parawagan is the third and last mountain I need to climb to complete the Version 2 Trilogy at Montalban. My 18th hike and 22nd mountain has been my easiest climb so far although the trail was muddy and the rain kept on pouring during the hike.

Going to Mt. Parawagan

Jay, my mom and I met at Bastasan where we rode a jeep going to Puregold San Mateo. At Puregold San Mateo, we rode another jeep going to Montalban. We got off at the tricycle terminal and rode a tricycle going to Brgy. Wawa. When we arrived, we registered our names and eaten a breakfast at our usual karinderya. We were told by the owner that Bela Padilla and Kim Chui were also hiking at Mt. Parawagan.

The Hike to Mt. Parawagan

The trail to Mt. Parawagan is cemented at the first one-eight of the trail. There is an evident of civilization and community throughout that part and an ongoing project of cementing the trail up to the top.

After that part is where the real trail started. And it was the easiest trail I have ever walked upon. I do not need to describe every single detail of the trail because it was gradual and there was no effort to be exerted actually. But because it was raining during our hike, the trail was muddy and we were cautious with our every step so we won’t slip and swim in the mud. But nevertheless, our feet was still covered with mud.

The weather and the mud did not discourage the other hikers as well as trail runners. Our guide said that Mt. Parawagan is more challenging when it is not raining because the sun is really killing the mood. So the rain and mud were welcomed during our hike. It was like walking around the mall and maybe that is why others chose running instead of walking.

Although one-eight part of the mountain was cemented, Mt. Parawagan is still abundant of trees and tall grasses. It was an easy climb but it was longer than I expected. The trail to the summit is estimated to be 10 km long which can be reached within two hours or less.

At the summit, the 360° view was overwhelming with fog so we cannot see clearly the view. But when there was a slight clearing, Mt. Binacayan, Mt. Hapunang Banoi and Mt. Pamintinan are can be seen. We stayed at the summit for a while to rest.

After some time, we decided to take our another two hour-walk down the mountain. And because our feet were covered with muds, we washed them off at the river near the jump-off.

And ta-dah! The easiest climb of the year!
