A quick and accessible getaway near Manila is can be found at Tanay, Rizal. Surrounded by the mountains of Sierra Madre, the Sierra Madre Hotel & Resort is a perfect place for people looking for quiet, peace and encounter with nature.

Going to Tanay

My mom and I, together with Jay, met at Cubao around 6:00am to go to Marikina River Park to meet my aunt, Tita Baby and my cousin, Danica. From there, we traveled for a couple of hours to Tanay. As we leave the noise of the Metro Manila, we were welcomed by fogs all the way. The cold and dampness can be felt and it was a welcomed feeling. Also, we encountered a group of riders going to Palo Alto Falls, too.

At Palo Alto Falls

Actually, Palo Alto Falls was not in our itinerary but because we passed by it before going to Sierra Madre Hotel & Resort, we decided to see it ourselves. The most exhilarating feeling at Palo Alto Falls was the fact that viewing was free—totally free of any charges. Swimming and the cottages have different charges, though.

From below, we walked two hundred steps up to where the falls was located. It was a bit slippery because it just rained but after a few minutes of climbing, we reached the falls and it was majestic! We stayed for a couple of minutes or so to take pictures. Luckily we were the only ones at the place at that time.

The Sierra Madre Hotel & Resort

Sierra Madre Hotel & Resort is literally what the name implies. It is a resort in the midst and overlooking the Sierra Madre Mountain Range. The place was so wide and perfect for a little trekking here and there. There are rooms for the guests and also a campsite for those who opt to enjoy the nature. There is a swimming pool, which is so cold and deep by the way, and some activities like zipline and rope ladders, etc. It is indeed a perfect place for the whole family.

It was raining when we went to the resort and somehow the place was not maintained well during rainy season I guess because the grasses were tall and we saw rats during our quick walk around at the farther side of the place where their garbage was piled up. But it is indeed has very picturesque and instragrammable look into it which can attract travellers who wanted to have a view of the Sierra Madre Mountains while lounging and relaxing on a chair.

The room is well-maintained which can be perfect for a staycation. The swimming pool was really deep during our visit maybe because the heavy down pour of rain added into it. It was also bone-deep cold which left our teeth chattering and the fog also added to the cold. There is a feeling of joy and contentment during our stay.

Fees:

Viewing – P50.00
Viewing with swimming pool – P200.00
Room – P1,500/day/5 pax (depends on the stay)

Note:

There is no corkage fee so I really would suggest bringing food with you. It would help minimize the expenses but there is an available restaurant at the place and their food is delicious.

Until next trip!
